Ear - opening of kidney but also connects to the liver and gall bladder

Common Ear Treatment:

Common Ear Diseases:

Pre-Auricular Fistula (anterior) - during fetal development usually a one sided area anterior of the ear does not form properly leaving an open hole. There may be a white mucus discharge and may get infected giving rise to pain, swelling and a yellow purulent discharge.
Toxic Heat Invasion - Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin + Zao Jia Ci, Mu Dan Pi

Frost Bite - restricted circulation, lack of Qi and Blood due to excessive exposure to extreme cold. Area becomes pale/purple, numbness, itchy pain
Dang Gui Si Ni Tang
Qi deficiency - Huang Qi, Dang Shen, Bai Zhu, Ji Xue Teng
Blood Stasis (more purple) - Zao Jiao Ci, Tao Ren, Hong Hua
Infection (excess pain, redness) - Pu Gong Ying, Jin Ying Hua, Zi Hua Di Ding, Chai Hu

External Treatment- No Infection - Shen Jiang, Xie Bai paste
Infection - San Huang San

External Auricular Inflammation - Otitis - itchy pain with discharge, red, swelling, narrowing of ear canal.
Chronic - Liver and Kidney Deficiency - more itchiness, deficient pain, thick scaly flaking dead skin
Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan + expel wind heat herbs
Acute - Damp Heat and Toxic heat symptoms

External Treatment: Chronic - Qing Dai Gao Acute - San Huang San

Auricular Cyst - pseudo cyst of auricular (phlegm nodules) acute onset with swelling, numbness, no change in skin color, may be multiple swellings
Er Chen Tang + (blood mover) Dang Gui + Zao Jiao Ci, Bai Zhi, Yi Yi Ren, Bian Xu
With infection - Jing Jie Pi, Du Huo, Mang Xiao, Shi Cang Pu
External Treatment - Mang Xiao

Auricular Furuncle (local area infected/boil) - usually acute, severe pain, swelling, difficult painful jaw movements aggravated at night, possible local lymph swelling

Auricular Mycosis - fungal infection - Otomycosis
Wind damp heat invading ear, severe ear itchiness aggravated at night, feeling of distention within ear, poor hearing, possible dizziness/tinnitus/ear ache. General grey/yellow moist flaking skin discharge

Otitis Media - Acute distended inner ear ache, feeling like cotton ball stuck inside of ear, poor hearing or auto-sensitivity

Acute Deafness -

Qi and Blood Stagnation - occours suddenly with exertion (ie lifting, sneezing, trauma) accompanied with dizziness

Gradual Deafness - usually due to loud music or general aging in elderly

Virtigo - acute onset of dizziness, spinning, loose balance easily, unable to stand, tinnitus, deafness, nauseous, vomiting
