Vestibulitis - painful, swollen, itching, inflammation on internal areas of nose
Acute - toxic pathogen invading lung system accumulating within the nose blocking meridians leading to red, swollen painful nose with burning sensations and dryness and possible dry stools
Huang Lian Jie Du Tang + modifications (-huang bai) + Sang Ye, Lian Qiao
Chronic - Damp Heat - rhinitis with nasal discharge and inflammation
Chu Shi Tang or Bei Xie Shen Shi Tang
With constipation - Da Huang, Mang xiao
Exernal Treatment - Qing Dai Cream

Nasal Furuncle - Nasal Boil - Yin boils - dark/slow healing boils with high fever, which enters
nutrient and blood levels
Yang Boils - red boils with quick healing and low fever during recovery stage
Red, swollen, painful boils which quickly spread to face areas. Pusy spots on top of swelling areas on nose accompanied with a deep root, throbbing pain, fever, headache, scanty dark urine, constipation, thirst, bitter taste in the mouth
Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin + modifications (Da Huang, Mang Xiao, Shi Gao)
Excessive Swelling with Distended Pain-Blood Movers
Zao Jiao Ci, Chuan Chan Jia
Excessive Pain - Ru Xiang Mo Yao
Toxic Heat - Qing Wen Bai Du Yin - + An gong Niu Huang Wan or Zi Xue Dan
External application - Jing Huang Gao, Yu Lu Gao, Ye Ju Hua, Pu Gong Ying

Nasal Vestibular cysts - local area pressure with slight numbness and pain with pressure, infected,
red, swollen, painful and hot
* Surgery is recommended - difficult to treat with herbs

Nasal Congestion - acute rhinitis, external pathogenic factors attacking the body
Wind Cold - clear discharge with superficial wind cold symptoms

Wind Heat - yellow, thick discharge with superficial wind heat symptoms
Cang Er Zi San + Sang Jue Yin or Niu Bang Zi
Prevention - lots of outdoor exercises (no gym rats) and drink plenty of water.

Chronic Rhinitis - usually due to deficiency of lung and spleen qi causing pathogenic factors to
accumulate in nasal cavity.
Lung Qi Deficiency - relates closely to weather changes, chronic nasal congestion, easily catch's colds, congestion aggravated by cold weather, clear nasal discharge
Ma Huang for nasal drip - effective
Cong Er Zi San + modification (huang Qi, Dan She, Bai Zhu)
Spleen Qi Deficiency - relates closely to diet - chronic heavy nasal congestion with heavy phlegm symptoms, distended headache, frontal headache, discharge of frothy yellow phlegm (possible infection)
Ma Huang is no good for this diagnosis
Shen Ling Bai Zhu San + Aromatic Herbs (Huo Xiang, Pei Lan)
Qi and Blood Stagnation - chronic nasal congestion, ameliorated during daytime activities alternating sides, scanty-sticky dry discharge with dry nose, throat and mouth, poor memory
Tao Hong Si Wu Tang + modifications (Cang Er Zi, Xi Xin)

Allergic Rhinitis - sneezing with clear discharge and possible cough
Lung and Spleen Qi Deficiency - dairy foods, mites, pollen,
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang
Wen Fei Zhi Liu Dang
Kidney Deficiency - weather related, urinary disorders and a cold sensation within the body

Atrophic Rhinitis - membrane of nose becomes dry (deficient fluids) due to environment (dusty, Mines, wood worker, hot temperatures)

Liver and Gall Bladder Damp heat - interior injury - thick turbid sticky excessive odor nasal discharge with liver and gallbladder symptoms.

Chronic Sinusitis - turbid nasal discharge, cloudy/dizzi head
Spleen Qi Deficiency - damp phlegm, chronic discharge worse in the mornings and aggravated by head movement
